Athens was super cool. We sort of ran out of money down there in January, but even so it was really amazing. There's a really buzzing touristy city center with a large market and spectacular views of the Parthenon, which sits atop a hill and is visible almost everywhere. It's just a very exciting destination. Check it out...

This is hard to describe live. The air was warm even though it was January. The sun is out and people are smiling. And you're staring at the seat of Western civilization. This was built well before Jesus of Nazareth walked the Earth. I... can't explain it more. Go see it!

We're chilling in Athens.

ree

Athens at night was really fun.

This dude was actually really good.

Notice the Greek tiara.

The big square. Nice laid back scene.

Photography school

Socrates was here. Oh yeah? So was I!

We make it to the top of the hill, which is a nice walk on a tree-lined street through a park. The ruins sit atop the hill overlooking the city center. The ruins are all part of the Acropolis and were built in the 4th century B.C. Not sure what this is specifically. Anyway the ancient city of Athens--this is part of it.

Stones in the park. We didn't get a tour guide and didn't have any literature. A lot of this stuff isn't obviously marked. But in general the park starts close to the city center and covers essentially the hill which at its apex is the site of the Acropolis. This was on the way back to the city center.

Very beautiful at night.

ree

That's like, your opinion, man.

Street markets in Athens.

Shot of the Acropolis and Parthenon looking up from the base of the park. I think we are seated outside at a Greek restaurant.

Entrance to the ruins. We screwed this up I think and got there when it was closing. We often winged things, which has its thrills, but can result in missed opportunities. (Thanks, Captain Obvious!)

View out of our hotel window at the Acropolis. Photo doesn't really capture it.

ree

The... James Joyce pub and restaurant. Had to check it out!

ree

Random photo.

Greek food! Great for bread and meat lovers...

Somewhere early morning in the city center. We arrived very early in the morning and took a bus from the airport. It think it was like 6:00 am when we landed. We walked around before checking into the hotel later in the morning. And, we got tired! This happens. The memories are awesome though.

ree

I'm not sure why I snapped this photo!

ree

Very old Greek Orthodox church.

ree

Don't mess with this dude.

ree

Church near city center.

ree

Religious statue. Not sure. Also: birds.
