I am trying to recall why we detoured through Madrid to Brussels, and I can't. We canceled the trip down to Morocco and decided to... ah, that's right... go to Prague! Brussels was our step to Prague. In Brussels, a mix up at the airport resulted in us missing the Prague flight. We ended up in the Canary Islands. But first, check out Brussels. I loved it.

The Grand-Place in Brussels. The central square of the city. It's considered one of the most beautiful squares in the world. Rich history: a couple of Protestant monks were burned here in the 16th century as part of the Inquisition. Two noblemen (counts) name of Egmont and Hoorn were beheaded here in 1568. And during the War of the League of Augsbourg in the 17th century, French troops blasted flaming cannonballs into the square, destroying most of the houses. Fortunately it's tourism now, and Belgians have festivals and celebrations in the square each year. On a personal note, it is beautiful to see, but Krakow's central square compares to it, and Prague is in a league of its own.

The garbage? Not sure.

Walking inh the city center. We ended up eating outside of this restaurant. People are friendly in Brussels. It lacks the French snobbery and you won't get mobbed by tourists. But, it's beautiful and great for just walking and site seeing.

This little dude apparently protects the city. By peeing? It's a destination in Brussels. It's called the Manneken Pis, which translates pretty well in English (come to think of it). It was built in 1618 or 1619 and symbolizes the Belgian spirit and sense of humor. No joke. People come for all over to take a picture. As in...

We were asked by this couple to snap a photo of them in front of the Manneken Pis.

Typical boulevard in Brussels.

Bicycles. Many bicycles. In Copenhagen, Denmark (which I'll show later) there are so many bicycles on the street that it's humorous. Like some Charlie Chaplin movie or something. Anyway, bicycles.

I dunno.

In the mall. We were looking at luggage. Every one seemed obsessed with luggage. So we started looking even though we had luggage. Do this when you're in Brussels.

Anya drinking two beers by herself.
