We decided to ride the bus out to Krakow in Poland, which was about a twelve hour ride. Translation: long. Silver lining: Krakow is really a magical, beautiful city. It has one of the most striking large open squares I've ever seen--including the magic of Old Town Prague. Check it out...
Main Square in Krakow. It dates back to the 13th century and is located in Old Town Krakow (lots of Old Towns), part of Lesser Poland (bastards!). The main purpose of the square for centuries has been commerce. Jews traded in the square as early as the 15th century. Helpfully, the Nazi's renamed Main Square during the Second World War, calling it Adolf Hitler-Platz, since Adolf Hitler had so much to do with eight hundred years of rich Polish history. Anyway. The large ornate structure in the background is called Cloth Hall, and was rebuilt in 1555 in the Renaissance style. In 1978, UNESCO put Main Square on the list of World Heritage sites. Go see it!
We ate dinner near here. This is a shot looking out from the outdoor area of the restaurant.
